Research and collaboration

Research is key priority at our department. We share our latest results, often including preliminary findings, through working papers and publications in leading international journals.

We also host research seminars with both internal and external speakers to discuss ongoing work.

We are closely collaborating and sharing research seminars with

The Vienna Center for Experimental Economics (VCEE)

The Vienna Instiute for Advanced Studies (IHS)

The Austrian National Bank (OeNB)

The Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU)

The Vienna Behavioral Economics Network (VBEN)

The Department of Economics at the University of Vienna has achieved an excellent position in the research ranking published by the German Handelsblatt (2017), which covers all universities in German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). Based on the number of top-tier publications (so-called A+ and A publications) over the past five years, the Department ranks 10th, ahead of the University of Innsbruck (20th) and WU Vienna (24th). The top three positions are held by the universities of Zurich, Bonn, and Mannheim. The University of Vienna’s ranking is particularly noteworthy given its relatively small Department of Economics with only 11 professors. When measuring productivity by the number of top publications per capita, the University of Vienna ranks 6th in the German-speaking world.
