Daniele is an applied theorist interested in Macroeconomics, Labor Economics, Technological Change, and Demographic Transition. His research investigates the interaction between technological and demographic changes and their consequences on the labor market, market structure, economic growth, and inequality.
After his Bachelor's and Master's studies at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Daniele obtained his PhD from the European University Institute and has been working as a Postdoc researcher at the University of Konstanz. He is part of a group of experts in the "Economics of ageing" from the Banque de France and Fondation France-Japon Macroeconomic Lab studying the relationship between demography and economics.
Daniele is excited to start working in Vienna and meeting his new colleagues.
Simon Martin is joining us from the University of Düsseldorf, where he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE). He is also affiliated with CEPR and CESifo.
His main research areas are (empirical) Industrial Organization and Game Theory. He has worked extensively on gasoline markets in several countries and has a particular interest in digital industries and their regulation.
Simon obtained his PhD from the University of Vienna in 2019, and he is eager to return to Vienna to collaborate with great colleagues, live in one of the most livable cities in the world, and enjoy the occasional hike in the Austrian mountains.
Lorenzo joins us from KU Leuven, where he received his PhD under the supervision of Dieter Verhaest (KU Leuven) and Olivier De Groote (Toulouse School of Economics). As an applied microeconomist, his research focuses on labor economics and the economics of education. His current work employs dynamic models and other econometric methods to analyze skill mismatch, multidimensional skills, and heterogeneous returns to education and skills.
Lorenzo completed his master's degree in Vienna and is excited to return to this fantastic city. In his free time, he is an avid reader, enjoys outdoor activities like climbing and hiking, and is passionate about music, playing both the guitar and the bass guitar.
