Eeva Mauring is joining us from University College London where she was supervised by Rani Spiegler and Martin Cripps.
Eeva works on microeconomic theory, especially on models of consumer search and learning. In one of her papers she investigates whether giving market participants more information makes the market more efficient. She finds that more information is not always efficiency-enhancing.
Eeva is Estonian. She enjoys running, playing board games, and attending classical music concerts. She says: "The reasons why I came to the University of Vienna are that the department is well-known for its high-quality research and has several great people working on topics similar to my research interests, colleagues seem to collaborate a lot and are friendly. And Vienna is after all consistently ranked as the world's second-best city to live in."
Juha Tolvanen is joining us from Princeton University where he was supervised by Bo Honoré.
Juha is interested in both empirical and theoretical microeconomics. His current work spans from measuring how much different insurance contracts affect the risks that the insured agents take to studying theoretical bargaining models where information about the other party's characteristics is imperfect.
Juha is Finnish and enjoys reading, listening to music, good food, hiking and other outdoors activities. When asked why he wanted to come to Universität Wien he says: "The people at the department are very good in both economic theory and industrial organization, the department has an extremely collegial and productive atmosphere and Vienna with its culture and cafes is a great city to live in. Furthermore, the forest is just a tram ride away!"
