Rankings

Rankings abound and receive increasing attention. The criteria used across rankings vary widely and the outcomes are rather sensitive to the selection and weighting of journals, the range of years etc. We list some well-known rankings of research output below.

According to a ranking of research by the University of Connecticut and provided by Ideas (August 2015): Our faculty ranks 7th among the economics faculties and departments in the German-speaking area and 68 among all institutions in Europe (this ranking includes non-educational institutions like national banks or the OECD).

According to a ranking published 2013 by the newspaper Handelsblatt (and compiled by KOF ETH Zürich) we rank 8th among faculties in the German-speaking area.

According to the ranking of Economics Schools of Research by the University of Tilburg (April 2013, based on publications in 70 journals in the years 2008-12), we rank 6th in the German-speaking area and 30th in Europe.

According to all of these rankings we are the top economics research institution in Austria.
